Mimi Tang had a detached garage behind her house with a leaking roof and rotting walls. When she decided to rebuild it, she contacted me to create a playhouse design for her young son, with some storage space for her. The street-facing side of the new structure features large, hinged garage-style doors to access the storage area. Around the corner, facing the back yard is a set of double full-lite doors with large windows above and to each side, bringing plenty of sunlight into the play area inside, and providing a direct physical and visual connection between indoor and outdoor play areas. The play area also features a ladder leading to a play loft above the storage area at the front - making full use of the vaulted interior, and providing a fun, unique space for her son to play.
