Design is a process, one that can be unfamiliar if you haven't done it before. My job is to help you navigate that process: considering options, discovering opportunities and potential obstacles, and tying everything together into a finished work that is both functional and beautiful.

Let's say you've made the decision to build. You have a vision in your head of what you want your finished project to be like, but how do you transform that vision into reality? Or maybe you're not yet sure what you want - where do you begin? I’ve often heard clients say they need to figure out what they want before they engage an architect, but helping you figure that out can be part of my job: the process of brainstorming ideas and bringing them to fruition is the process of design, in which we explore various possibilities to discover what works best for you.
construction documents
Maybe you’ve already been working on a design of your own: you have a good idea of how you want your home laid out, and what you want it to look like. Depending on the completeness of your design, I can take it as a starting point, help you optimize it, and contribute a fresh perspective and new ideas - then prepare construction documents based on your design, for obtaining your permit and delivering to your building contractor for construction.
As-built drawings
If you have a residence or other building for which you would like accurate, to-scale drawings of the existing structure, for possible future projects or just for your records, I can create those for you. Or if you did a project without a building permit and need to get one after-the-fact, I can help with the necessary documentation of work done.
Permit Submittal
I've seen hundreds of projects through the permitting process in dozens of jurisdictions throughout Oregon and Washington, so I have a good idea of what building and zoning officials are looking for, and how to successfully navigate the process to obtain the needed permits. I'm very happy to help with this so you won't need to do it yourself.
